Called a «tropical garden of boutiques» by its creators, this two-story, sixty-two thousand square meter structure opened in 2002. One hundred seventy exclusive brands are on display from firms producing clothes, accessories, jewelry, timepieces, porcelain and ceramics. Each boutique is decorated in the style characteristic of its brand, a Parisian apartment for Nina Ricci and the avant garde for Maison Martin Margiela. The interior of the shopping center includes pools and fountains, streams, bridges, live tropical plants, grand pianos.
Finding this Russian designer‘s store, filled with various boutiques, in the pedestrian Stoleshnikov Lane is no trouble. Buildings decorated in the folk art style of Khokhloma are seldom encountered. Inside there is a red carpet leading upwards. Parts for the crystal chandeliers in the boutique were made in France according to special drawings. Their assembly in Moscow took eleven days. The pride of the store is the two armchairs, consoles and couch which once belonged to Catherine the Great’s favorite Grigori Potemkin. Here are clothes and accessories from the latest collections for men and women by the designer.
Tourists in Moscow could be shown this small but very fashionable bar belonging to Russian fashion designer Denis Simachev. The tour would say, «Look on the wall at the gold Kalashnikov, and there is Filipp Kirkorov trying on some clothes.» The bar is unsuitable for dancing, although good, often imported DJs play here. But there is physically no room to get down: it would be a shame if someone stepped on Kirkorov’s foot. But at the same time, the place is worth a look. If the dancing doesn’t work out, there are people to watch.
This store, practically the only place selling books on design in Moscow, is hidden so well it was as if we lived in China and design books were prohibited by the government.
This is not a club but an entire «cultural center». Even after the death of its founder, Nikolai Dmitriev, it remains the most avant garde and experimental club in Moscow. Electro-acoustic interactive music and multimedia, sound installations, noise music, «Deep Throat and Dangerous Liasons», the Japanese avant garde and Scandinavian folk or Bill Drummond (The KLF) with his chorus The 17—everything that happens here is so unusual that the absence, for all intents and purposes, of a bar and kitchen, is not an issue, since that is not what you come for. Сover 300–400 rub.
