Salambo’s menu is founded on the best fish dishes of Mediterranean cuisine prepared with virtuosic style by Tunisian chef Zituni Abdessattar. The menu features several specialties from the chef’s native country: couscous, masfouf, shorpa and brik.
This hotel first opened its doors in 1913. Nowaday two different interior styles are distinguishable. Architect Victor Velichkin used Empire and Rococo in fulfilling a commission from the firm «Salamander». By the way, the image of this amphibian is still used as a symbol of this hotel. Inside ceiling moulding and painting from the early 1900s remain intact. The hotel was named after the French duchy of Savoy, which in Imperial Russia was associated with wealth and luxury. In 1958 the hotel was renamed the «Berlin». Following reconstruction in 1989 the hotel’s original name was restored.
Moscow’s only architectural museum is located in this city estate built in 1780 by architect Matvei Kazakov. Reconstruction is still not complete and most of the museum’s treasures (drawings and archival photos) are in storage. David Sarkisian keeps the museum’s enfilade rooms permanently occupied with temporary exhibits: Oscar Niemeyer, Alvaro Siza, and Russian architects. The rear courtyard deserves special attention: the sculptures assembled here are from the Triumphal Arch built to commemorate the victory over Napoleon; the restored 18th century chambers of the «Aptekarskii Prikaz» make for one of Moscow’s best exhibition spaces; and there is also the studio of the celebrated Moscow architect Alexander Brodskii.
One of the oldest and most authoritative but not the biggest music club in Moscow, Sixteen Tons can still gladden the heart with a good program—concerts by local and imported indie groups and great parties are tarnished only by the abundance of office workers who treat «The Tons» like their local pub. But perhaps it is just a large pub with a musical program. Сover 300–1000 rub.
Solyanka opened its doors in 2007 and was the best club in Moscow for a whole year, becoming the home of a charming, varied set of people, including the so-called «hipsters». Then the face-control got less strict: there got to be more and more dudes at the bar in sport jackets. Nonetheless, it’s worth stopping in from time to time, especially on the first Saturday of the month, when there are parties by the promo-group Idle Conversation. Сover on Fri and Sat 500 rub.
